About Honoson

We are Honoson. We make the small items a room runs out of, and we sell them in the counts a room actually uses.

We make 988 lines across 17 departments, from a two-piece tweezer set to a 2006-piece tagging kit. We work across office supplies, classroom kit, party favours, craft and model tools, hand tools, repair parts, beauty tools, first aid, sport, shop counter supplies and home decor. We go broad on purpose: the same buyer needs a badge reel on Monday and a box of glue sticks on Thursday.

What holds it together is not a look. It is a habit: we state the count, we state the material, we state the size. We carry a stated pack count on 888 of our lines and we name 19 distinct colours across the range.

Our second habit is arithmetic. A bigger pack is not always cheaper, so we follow every price we publish with what one piece costs, rounded up to the cent so the figure is never the flattering one.

Our limits are worth stating in the same breath. We are not a shop counter: ordering, payment, delivery and returns happen at checkout with the retail partner, and a question about a parcel belongs to them. What belongs to us is what we make, what we count and what we write about it.

How we decide what to make

We did not start Honoson with a design brief. We started with reorders: the items a buyer comes back for, in the counts they come back for. We add a line when the old one keeps selling out, and we drop it when that stops.

  1. 1. Somebody runs outA room, a bench or a counter tells us which count it actually gets through.
  2. 2. We cut the count to the roomThe median pack here is 15 pieces, because rooms are not warehouses.
  3. 3. The count goes on the card888 of 988 lines state theirs, and the rest say nothing rather than guess.

We make shelves, not statement pieces

We make ordinary Honoson items across seventeen shelves, and we go deliberately broad rather than deep. A school needs badge reels and glue sticks and safety scissors in the same week, and a workshop needs sanding sticks, hex keys and cable ties on the same afternoon. We would rather have all of that than one beautiful thing.

We do not pretend any of it is an heirloom. The test we set a line is duller and harder than that: does somebody reorder it.

We lead with the count, because the count is the decision

We put how many are in the box first on every Honoson page we publish. It is the first fact on a card, we put it in the name, and it decides where we file the product on a department page.

The reason is arithmetic. A pack of 200 pencils at fifteen dollars and a pack of 24 at nine are not comparable until you divide, so we do the division on the page and print the figure per piece next to the price.

We copy our specifications from nobody

We print what a pack contains, what we make it from and how big it is, and we let no adjective do the work a number should do.

A count is also a plan. Fifty cable ties cover a garage reorganisation with some left for the car, and two hundred picture hooks see a rental through several moves. Knowing what a box covers before you open it is how you buy once instead of three times.

We sort our seventeen shelves by the job

What we make crosses twenty-seven separate product categories as they are filed elsewhere, which is a good way to lose a customer. So we organise our departments by what somebody is actually shopping for: we put a Christmas party favour on the seasonal shelf, a cookie box bought to give in gift packaging, a tagging gun at the shop counter.

Where a line genuinely belongs on no one shelf, we put it in More Supplies rather than force it somewhere tidy.

We date our prices, and we say where

We date every price, once, on our editorial policy page rather than stamped across every screen. When we cannot get a line to you we take it off the shelf until we can, so the worst you will find here is an empty peg and never a stale number.

That is our whole policy, and it is why the number we show you is worth reading.

Prices

When we cannot get a line to you we take it off the shelf here until we can, because a pack count beside a price nobody will honour is worse than an empty peg. We put the date of our last update on the editorial policy page.
